Adrian Thorp

Professor Adrian Thorp is a Specialist Oral Surgeon and President of the British Association of Oral Surgeons (BAOS). He is also Clinical Director and Executive Board Member at Community Dental Services CIC.

He qualified in Dentistry from the University of Liverpool in 1999 and later completed his M Surg Dent, joining the Oral Surgery Specialist List in 2009. His professional career has included extensive experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, specialist dental services and postgraduate education.

Professor Thorp has played an active role in the development of Oral Surgery training and service provision in the United Kingdom. He contributed to the development of the four-year national curriculum for Oral Surgery and to the National Accreditation for Tier 2 Oral Surgery in Wales. He also established the Oral Surgery Managed Clinical Network in North Wales.

He served for eight years as Training Programme Director for Dental Foundation Training in North Wales and continues to be closely involved in postgraduate education, professional assessment and specialist training.

Professor Thorp is currently Chair of the Dental Specialty Fellowship Examination in Oral Surgery and is involved with the Specialty Advisory Boards for Oral Surgery at two Royal Colleges of Surgeons. He also holds a Law Degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.

His professional interests include Oral Surgery education, clinical standards, accreditation, workforce development and the organisation of specialist Oral Surgery services.
