Recognising clinical competence and supporting European standards in Oral Surgery

What is EBOS?

The European Board in Oral Surgery is an assessment created to recognise the clinical competence, professional experience and knowledge of practitioners in the field of Oral Surgery.

The assessment contributes to the promotion of high standards in Oral Surgery and supports the development of common references for training and practice across Europe.

Purpose of the Assessment

The EBOS Assessment was created to recognise the clinical competence of candidates and their ability to practise Oral Surgery safely and independently.

It also aims to support the harmonisation of training and practice standards between European countries, contributing to the advancement and recognition of Oral Surgery at a European level.

Recognition and Limitations

Passing the EBOS examination confers the title of Fellow of the EBOS.

However, passing the EBOS examination does not confer the right to claim the title of Specialist in Oral Surgery, nor does it grant the right to practise Oral Surgery in any country.

The right to use the title of Specialist in Oral Surgery or to practise Oral Surgery is solely granted by the national authority of each country.

The Examination

The EBOS examination board convenes at least every two years.

The examination is designed to assess the candidate’s knowledge, clinical reasoning and ability to practise Oral Surgery according to safe and independent professional standards.

Candidates should consult the official rules and application documents before submitting their application.

Location 

The next European Board in Oral Surgery — EBOS — Assessment will take place on 4 and 5 September 2026 in Barcelona, Spain.
