Mathias Sommer

Secretary General

Dr. Mathias Sommer, M.Sc. is a German oral surgeon with extensive clinical, academic and scientific experience in Oral Surgery, Implantology and Prosthodontics.

He studied Dentistry at the University of Cologne and completed the German state examination in Dentistry in 1987. In 1989, he obtained the degree of Dr. med. dent. and developed his academic career at the University Dental and Maxillofacial Clinic in Cologne.

​

His professional background includes international research and teaching experience, with activity at the University of Washington in Seattle and the University Hospital of Gothenburg in Sweden.

​

Dr. Sommer completed specialist training in Oral Surgery at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery — Plastic Surgery — of the Caritas St. Lukas Clinic in Solingen. In 1996, he opened his own practice in Cologne, with a strong clinical focus on Implantology.

​

He successfully completed the Master’s programme in Implantology at the University of Witten/Herdecke, obtaining the academic title of Master of Science in Implantology.

​

He is actively involved in several German and international scientific societies and has contributed to continuing education, scientific publications and lectures in Europe, the United States and internationally.

​

As Secretary General of EFOS, Dr. Sommer contributes to the federation’s institutional activity, European cooperation and the development of Oral Surgery standards across Europe.
